Japanese Neo Discovery (2000): all 56 cards with PSA prices — Umbreon and Espeon

Eighth in the complete-list series: Neo vol. 2, “Crossing the Ruins…”, known overseas as Japanese Neo Discovery. A small set of 56 cards, but it brought the two new Eevee evolutions, Umbreon and Espeon, plus Tyranitar and the first Unown, and it packs an unusually high number of sought-after holos.

What is it?

• Released on 7 July 2000. The Japanese name is neo 第2弾 遺跡をこえて…
• 56 cards: 52 Pokémon and 4 Trainers. No Energy cards.
• 20 holos, a high share for a set this size: Butterfree, Beedrill, Yanma, Houndour, Kabutops, Politoed, Dark Raichu, Espeon, Unown A, Wobbuffet, Poliwrath, Hitmontop, Umbreon, Houndoom, Tyranitar, Magnemite, Forretress, Scizor, Ursaring and Smeargle.
• Dark Raichu is the only Dark Pokémon in the set.
• Unown debuts with six forms, A, D, F, I, M and U. Only Unown A is a holo.
• Houndour exists as two cards, one holo and one non-holo. They are listed separately here.
• The four Trainers are Energy Ark, Ruin Wall, Fossil Egg and Hyper Devolution Spray.
• Cards are unnumbered; Pokémon are ordered by Pokédex number.

Highlights

• Umbreon is the face of the set, with the largest PSA population and by far the most PSA 10s.
• Espeon is collected as its pair and is the second most-graded card. The two tend to move together.
• Tyranitar, the big new Johto Pokémon, is third by graded count.
• Houndoom and Houndour are often bought as a pair, and both sit in the six most-graded cards of the set.
• Kabutops also makes the top six. It is a different card from the Fossil-set Kabutops.
• Dark Raichu is the odd one out: the only Dark Pokémon in a Neo set before Neo Destiny, and a holo, so it is collected both with this set and with the Team Rocket Dark Pokémon.

Reading the prices

• No variant print exists, so same card, same grade is directly comparable.
• The holo and non-holo Houndour are priced very differently. Confirm which one you have from the label or photo before opening the card’s price page.
• PSA 10 / PSA 9 below are the median of the latest confirmed sales (up to five).
